
PPP Senator Mian Raza Rabbani on 7th of October 2019 has issued a press statement questioning the exclusion of big business houses from the purview of NAB Law. In his press statement Senator Rabbani has stated that while big businesses have been excluded now from NAB law, other segments of the society are still under NAB radar and has termed it violation of Article 25, Constitution, 1973. Article 25, Constitution, 1973 that all citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection.
Senator Rabbani has gone on to write that “Here one segment of society has been excluded by the Federal Government application of law. The Federal Government must confirm or deny the rumour the NAB notices issued to one big business family of Pakistan have been withdrawn
after their meeting with the Prime Minister“.
Senator Raza Rabbani also mentioned media reports regarding an advisory body, saying “It is reported in the media that NAB has constituted an Advisory Body with big business houses. The names of the persons nominated in the Advisory must be made public and placed before Parliament and also the Terms of that have been framed or are being framed should also be made public and before Parliament”
Raising question on the independence of NAB, Senator Rabbani went on to write that “The independence of the NAB as an autonomous body was already shadow from the executive but with the formation of this Advisory autonomous status of the NAB will now rest in the hands of Pakistan’s big businesses“.
