Islamabad, Oct 7: In another major policy U-Turn, PTI government has decided to go against its earlier cabinet decision of October 2018 which is likely to benefit PMLN’s former PM Shahid Khaqaan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail.
In a Vlog titled “Sitting PM Imran Khan takes a big decision that may help release of former PM Shahid Khaqaan Abbassi?, ”(Link: https://youtu.be/82LH0CjoGSU) investigative journalist Rauf Klasra said the cabinet in its meeting on October 1, 2019, decided it would not scrutinize the multi billion rupee LNG contracts awarded by the PMLN government.

Referring to the Cabinet meeting, Rauf Klasra said the cabinet reversed its decision of re-opening the LNG contracts as law ministry scared the cabinet that new investors in the sector would not be signing contracts if accountability of old contracts is done.
The government is reportedly under pressure of big businessmen to close accountability cases by NAB which is trying to hold the nexus of businessmen, bureaucrats and politicians accountable for their acts of omissions and commissions.
Chairman Engro Group, Mr Hussain Dawood, was also summoned by NAB on October 8 in the M/S Engro Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited (EETPL) case in which former PM Shahid Khaqaan Abbasi, former finance minister Mifath Ismail and former Managing Director Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Shiekh Imran ul Haque are already arrested for investigations.
The cabinet in its meeting on October 1 reversed its decision taken a year ago in October 2018 in which explicit directions were given to Petroleum and Finance Ministries to re-negotiate the LNG contracts with companies for the exorbitant rate of return on their investments.
Mr Rauf Klasra said the company of Mr Hussain Dawood recovered its investments in the first year and would be getting profits for the next fourteen years.
Mr Hussain Dawood is amongst the businessmen who met Chief of Army Staff general Qamar Bajwa along with a group of businessmen to complain about NAB and the accountability process.
