Appointment of New Army Chief and Priorities of PDM Led Government

The PDM-led government has initiated the consultation process to appoint the new COAS of the Pakistan Army. This subject became the talk of the town after Imran Khan’s statement regarding the deferring of the appointment of new COAS till new elections. For former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the sitting Shahbaz Sharif regime is corrupt and does not enjoy public support so if Shahbaz Sharif appoints the new COAS of the Pakistan Army, this will definitely endanger the credibility of the new COAS. Former PM and Senior PMLN leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who is a trustworthy aide of Nawaz Sharif, has categorically said that extension is not on cards and that PDM led government will appoint the new COAS of the Pakistan Army. Defense minister Khawaja Asif also hinted that the seniority factor will be considered. Six senior-most Lieutenant Generals are being considered for this crucial appointment. Lt Gen Syed Asim Munir, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad, Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, Lt General Nauman, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed and Lt Gen Mohammad Amir are the top contenders.

Unfortunately, the Shahbaz Sharif government and its handlers are not paying much attention to the important issues of this country and just focusing on targeting former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party. The country is witnessing an economic meltdown, the exchange rate is out of control and inflation is increasing on daily basis but all these issues are not the priority of the Shahbaz Regime. The PDM-led regime is just focusing on getting NRO for itself and manipulating the system to get a clean chit in corruption cases.
