Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has approached the Islamabad High Court against the phase-wise acceptance of PTI MNA’s resignations from the National Assembly. According to the party’s general secretary Asad Umar, PTI’s resignations had already been accepted by then deputy speaker Qasim Suri and the current NA speaker illegally initiated the whole process again.

Through a petition, PTI has pleaded to the court that the “speaker may kindly be stopped from violating the constitution of Pakistan 1973 and may kindly be restricted /refrain from piecemeal acceptances of resignation by the parliamentary members of the applicant.”
According to PTI’s petition, “Qasim Khan Suri, acting speaker of the National Assembly, vide its order dated 13.04.2022 accepted 123 resignations out of 125 resignations in the light of Rule 43 of The Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly,2007. Through, the same order, the National Assembly Secretariat was also directed/ordered to notify the same in the Gazette.”

PTI petition further added that “the present speaker of the National Assembly had no authority to delay the matter by sitting over the already accepted resignations of the PTI MNA’s on any ground whatsoever, he malafidely delayed forwarding the resignations to the ECP, for ulterior motives and political consideration in order to cause political damage to the present petitioner, in the garb of so-called verification of the resignations afresh.”
