The federal Cabinet on Tuesday removed DG FIA Tahir Rai from his post and appointed grade 22 officer Mohsin Butt as Tahir’s successor. Tahir Rai had replaced Sanaullah Abbasi on April 21,2022 and held this position for 98 days.
During his 98 days tenure, FIA was accused for placing journalists under surveillance and harassing dissenting voices. According to sources, Tahir Rai was under pressure to make a strong Toshakhana case but he could not make a “strong Toshakhana case” against Imran Khan and purportedly this is the core reason behind his departure.
