The former supreme commander of the Afghan Taliban always remained part of the news cycle since 1996. He was among those jihadi fighters who fought against the Soviet Union during the cold war era.
After the withdrawal of the Soviet Union from Afghanistan, he managed to unite the Taliban under his command and established his rule in 1996. After the 9/11 attacks, he refused to hand over Usama Bin Laden to the USA and consequently his government was toppled by the USA through a full-scale military invasion.
He died in 2013 but he is still alive in the news cycle as the Afghan Taliban have dug up the vehicle of Mullah Omar. The car of once known as the “one-eye” man was buried in Zabul province after the American invasion. The car was buried by Mullah Omar himself when he arrived in Zabul province after the American invasion.
The car was wrapped in a plastic sheet to protect its paint. The vehicle is still in good condition except one mirror was damaged in the span of 21 years. For the Taliban, it is the most valuable asset and will be kept in Afghan National Museum.
