ISLAMABAD (21st January) – Days after Kaveh Moussavi released a 13 page letter written by his lawyers to the lawyers of Pakista, Barrister Zafar Ali QC has also decided to release a statement of facts along with Supreme Court soliciter Shahid Iqbal and Dr. Kersten Pucks.
In this 5 paged statement Zafar Ali QC has not only given the background of his meeting with Pakistani authorities but have also given a few whatsapp messages that he has exchanged with Kaveh Moussavi. Talking about his meeting with Imran Khan, it is mentioned in the letter that, “Mr. Mohsin Baig invited his UK lawyers, Mr. Zafar Ali QC and Mr. Shaid Iqbal, to Pakistan to meet PM Elect Imran Khan to discuss the recovery of stolen assets.”
The letter then talks about how Dr. Kersten Pucks and Zafar Ali QC drafted a proposal for Pakistan government for recovery of stolen assets.
The letter further states, “Mr. Ali was introduced to Mr. Kaveh Moussavi by Dr. Pucks. Mr. Moussavi stated he had information regarding the location of stolen assets. Mr. Ali and Dr. Pucks discussed using the information from Mr. Moussavi to recover stolen assets. Mr. Ali and Dr. Pucks actively encouraged Mr. Moussavi to share his allegedly vast information of Pakistani stolen assets.”
Regarding meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan & his team, the letter further states, “In Pakistan, Mr. Ali, Mr. Baig and Mr. Iqbal met with Prime Minister Elect Khan and several of his proposed cabinet ministers to present the asset recovery proposal. Prime Minister Elect Khan made it clear he wanted to pursue recovery of all stolen money, regardless of political affiliation. Mr. Ali had further meetings with members of the newly formed government. Mr. Ali put forward his proposal to the finance minister Asad Umer, the Attorney General, the Law Minister and Shazad Akbar. There were no meetings at which Mr. Ali put the proposal forward to a member of the intelligence services or armed forces.”
The letter further states that in subsequent meetings it became evident to the three that Mr. Moussavi was only interested in getting his claim of billions of dollars against the government of Pakistan.
The letter goes on to mention that, “some of Mr. Moussavi’s claims became increasingly exaggerated and difficult to believe. He talked about having sold part of his Broadsheet interest to hedge funds for billions of dollars and bragged about his ability to ground Pakistani aircraft if the Broadsheet debt was not settled within a week Mr. Ali and Dr. Pucks became increasingly concerned and uncomfortable about such claims.
The letter mentions that the proposal given to the Pakistan government was not accepted.
Zaffar Ali QC also released many WhatsApp messages that were exchanged between him and Mr. Moussavi regarding the matter further clarifying his position that he was never representing the government of Pakistan as stated by Mr. Moussavi’s letter.
The letter also alleges that Mr. Moussavi tried to bribe Zarar Ali QC and a few WhatsApp messages are also included in the letter which can be read below:
