The world was totally different on the morning of 12 September 2001. The terrible incident of 9/11 changed the world order. Those terrorist attacks were carried out by unknown individuals who were named as Afghan Taliban by USA. Pakistan became the front line ally of America in “War on Terror” and played a lead role in facilitating the U.S.-led intervention in Afghanistan from shortly after 9/11 up to the present. Pakistan is second among countries which are affected most by terrorism and lost 123 Billion dollars and 62,000 precious lives since 2003. Pakistan cooperated with USA in number of ways i.e. by permitting logistics facilities, sharing intelligence, and capturing wanted terrorists. Moreover, Pakistan made two naval bases, three air force bases, and its airspace available to the U.S. military. Pakistan has also tolerated American missile attacks launched from Afghanistan in the name of Taliban and al-Qaeda targets in Pakistan along with issue of internally displaced people (IDPs) due to these attacks. Pakistan has done more than her abilities and capabilities but instead of praising, America has always denied Pakistan’s key role in War on Terror. Yesterday, the U.S. president unleashes on Pakistan in quite harsher terms: “The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!” A strong reaction emerged on both social and electronic media, here are the glimpses:
Pakistan has been the biggest sufferer of war against terrorism, Mr. Trump! We have lost more than 70000 lives over the last 20 years, fighting this menace & you still have the audacity to allege us of supporting terrorists! Height of shamelessness… https://t.co/IDmd1hRzXq
