Three Indian Air Force Officers have been terminated from their service after being found responsible for Missile Accidentally Fired Into Pakistan. According to an official statement of IAF, a BrahMos missile was accidentally fired on 09 March 2022 and three officers are held responsible for this incident.
“A BrahMos missile was accidentally fired on 09 March 2022. A Court of Inquiry (Col), set up to establish the facts of the case, including fixing responsibility for the incident, found that deviation from the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by three officers led to the accidental firing of the missile. These three officers have primarily been held responsible for the incident. Their services have been terminated by the Central Govt with immediate effect. Termination orders have been served upon the officers on 23 Aug 22.”, IAF said in an official statement.

The BrahMos missile was fired from an unknown Indian base that had landed in the Mian Channu area of Pakistan. Pakistan had raised this issue on both diplomatic and defense fronts. On March 10, 2022, DG ISPR said that, “on March 9, at 6:43 pm, a high-speed flying object was picked up inside the Indian territory by Air Defence Operations Centre of the Pakistan Air Force. From the initial course, it deviated and entered Pakistan territory and fell in Pakistani territory, causing some damage to civilian installations but no loss of life was reported.”
He further added that, “As a responsible nation, we will wait for India to respond. We have given details of whatever we know right now. But it is for the Indians to explain what happened in Mian Channu.”
Indian Ministry of Defence on March 11, accepted that a missile was accidentally fired from India and landed on Pakistan’s territory.
“On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile. The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry. It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.” Said the Indian ministry of defense.
