Afghan Taliban today lost a key commander and religious cleric Rahimullah Haqqani in a suicide attack in Kabul. Islamic State-Khorasan Province, generally known as Daesh has accepted the responsibility of this attack.

Deputy spokesperson of Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan Bilal Karimi has confirmed the death of Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani. In a tweet, the spokesman said that Sheikh Rahimuulah Haqqani has embraced martyrdom in the brutal attack of a brutal enemy.”

Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani was a prominent scholar of Hadith literature and he also served in Nangarhar ‘s Taliban military commission. He also spent his time in Pakistan as a student. He studied in different madrassas of Akorha Khattak and Swabi. During the anti-US military campaign, he got arrested and was imprisoned in the famous Bagram jail.

Rahimullah Haqqani was vocal against Daesh and this made him the number one target of Daesh in this region. He survived two Daesh attacks. Both attacks were carried out during his Pakistan visit, first in 2013 and the second attempt was made in October 2020.
According to Afghan Taliban officials, the suicide bomber kept the explosive material in his artificial leg. Haqqani was the number one target of ISKP since the fall of Kabul in August last year. Daesh has released the picture of the attacker and claimed the responsibility of this suicide attack.
