The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday de-seated PMLN provincial lawmaker Kashif Mehmood. Kashif Mehmood was elected as MPA from PP 241 Bahawalnagar-V in the 2018 general elections. Abdul Ghafar, a voter from his constituency approached Islamabad High Court and pleaded that the PMLN lawmaker had submitted a fake degree in ECP and it was also confirmed by Al Khair university that the lawmaker never enrolled in the said university. The petitioner pleaded with the court to disqualify PMLN lawmaker under article 62(1)(f) of the constitution as he submitted fake documents in ECP.
After a series of hearings, IHC disqualified MPA Kashif Mehmood and asked ECP to de-notify him. PMLN lawmakers challenged this verdict in the Supreme Court but the three-member bench of the supreme court comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah maintained the order of the Islamabad High Court.
Consequently, ECP today issued a notification and de-notified the PMLN lawmaker.
