The Upper house of Parliament on Friday passed amid opposition protests Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Bill 2021.
Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari presented the bill. Opposition wanted the bill to be sent to the relevant comittee but Dr. Mazari pointed out that it took one year to draft the bill and it should be passed without further delay. After being passed from Senate of Pakistan, President Arif Alvi will now sign the bill into law.
Later, Dr. Mazari took to twitter to thank journalists and highlight her struggle for the bill
Meanwhile Federal Minister of Information Fawad Chaudhary also congratulated working journalists and thanked Dr. Shireen Mazari for working on the bill on his request.
